Trinity School
Some classic images of trinity School in its various iterations
The Second Trinity School (1896 - 1962)
Today the former main building of the school is now divided into two houses.
‘Trinity Church National School’, also later known as the ‘Parochial School’, was opened by the Church of England’s National Society for the Education of the Poor in a new building in Church Street in 1836 and educated boys downstairs and girls upstairs, under a master and a mistress.
By the late nineteenth century and the introduction of compulsory education the school had outgrown its premises. In 1896 the schools were rebuilt rebuilt on an adjoining site between Newtown and Church Street and from January 1928 became known as ‘Trinity Church of England Senior Schools’. After the Second World War, and with the reorganisation of national education, the school changed its name to ‘Trinity Secondary Modern’.
The Last Trinity School (1962 - 1980) now St Laurence School
This view taken from what used to be the entrance to the playing fields and is now the Wiltshire Music Center. It shows left to right, the former Rural Science, Physics and Biology classrooms in the foreground and the main classroom tower in the back. To the right of the main classroom block can be seen additional classrooms and the former main entrance to the school next to the Headmaster’s Office. Mr. Collin Davison was the last Headmaster of Trinity School.

The Second Trinity School (1896 - 1962)
In the foreground you can see the top of the school on Newtown and in front of Trinity Church. For much of the 1970’s part of this premise was used as the town Youth Club till it moved to a new location in 1979 at the top of Kennet Gardens off of the Frome Road next to the then Trowbridge Road Primary School.
In 1962 Trinity moved to new purpose built premises officially opening 12th July that year on a site between Churches and Ashley Road. It became the ‘St. Laurence School’ from September 1980, when both Trinity and Fitzmaurice schools were merged.
